About
I. Motivation WOD is about using every aspect of human capacity to experience and create Life- the way one exists in relation to everything.
If you are truly interested in human performance you must be interested in learning how people fail, both physically and mentally. We understand that failure is the result of stress responses. Stress is both internal and external. So, then, we must not avoid the discussion of inner-responses and actions, emotions and thought process when we talk about human performance. It is clear that human performance is NOT only physical. If we want to create more balanced and complete human beings we need to be aware of and discuss all of human ability. This would include instinct, intellect, character and emotions- qualities and characteristics that define action and interaction on both mental and physical planes.
If we want to create balanced and complete human beings we need to integrate all of human ability, including emotional and other invisible or “spiritual” qualities that define action and interaction or response.
To create super beings we need physical training and mental (intellectual & spiritual) training. These ”super beings” are humans who are ready to respond responsibly and maturely in whatever possible circumstances that may come their way in both the physical and mental (emotional-spiritual) realm. This is the complete approach to human performance and an all encompassing perspective on human capacity as it refers to “the unknown and the uknowable”.
The modern world is either focused on physical elitism or spiritual elitism but fails to bridge the gap that is actually non-existent. You aren’t as ”fit” as you think you are or as responsible and leadership-worthy as you could be without practicing the other missing pieces of human performance. To be human is to function on both physical and spiritual planes. Super-humans are exceptional in both realms.
The history of mankind and “paleo”- civilizations clearly tells us that pure nutrition, great physical exertion and daily meditation or spiritual commitment make up the full nature or full expression of what it is to be human. These are the prime components of basic humanity. Some of us have forgotten the practice of and comittment to self and communal awareness. Some of us have forgotten our history as beings who accomlished great physical feats to survive and thrive. Further, we mostly fail to realize the importance of both worlds and the need to cultivate both of them in our lives. Simultaneously, we fail to realize our full potential. This is the foundation of the Motivation WOD.
This blog is intended as a place for CrossFitters and other athletes to begin to take a well-rounded look at and approach to all the issues that affect humanity and the full depth of human potential. We need strong human beings who are confident but not arrogant and have a vision for their lives, the revolution they will start- the impact they will leave. We need people who realize physical prowess without maturity and selflessness is unbalanced. We need people who realize physical prowess will not make up for the change the world needs but should be a means for inspiration- health and wellness. We need people who realize spiritual awareness that is not balanced with an understanding of physical awareness and capacity is a human still lacking.
Take responsibility for the change no one can cultivate but you! Own up to it, learn from it and commit to being the best you can be inside and out. Be aware of how personal inner change brings change to our world. The events of life are unknown and unknowable. Don’t wait for something tragic to force you to flex your spiritual muscles. Start training now! Life is about surthrival, not simply surviving but also thriving. Only the strong survive but physical muscle can NOT provide everything a human needs. A clear mind, emotional freedom, balanced judgment, service-minded approach, vision and purpose are just as important.
