What is Mental Fitness?

Mental Fitness- work capacity across broad time and modal domains as it applies to (in no certain order):

  1. Instinct- natural impulse, inclination or tendency
  2. Intellect- the faculty of thinking, knowing and understanding
  3. Character- moral or ethical qualities and traits that makeup the personal nature
  4. Emotions- an affective state of consciousness caused by personal environment

These four categories of Mental Fitness are both applications and results. We become what we habitually practice, whether beneficial or not. We can observe that we see similar traits in the physical world.

10 Mental Fitness Skills/Characteristics

I. Instinct- intuition, awareness, inspiration (dream/vision)

II. Intellect- knowledge/understanding, discretion

III. Character- courage, discipline/self-control, selflessness, honesty

IV. Emotions- emotional intelligence (knowledge/understanding of emotional matrices and personal awareness)

The Mind

The mind has been defined as the human element that reasons, thinks, feels, wills, perceives and judges. The MeditationWOD understanding of the mind is a synergism of  instinct (natural impulse, inclination or tendency), knowledge (cognitive acquaintance or familiarity with facts, truths, principles, and other types of information), character (attitude or outlook as shown in thought; the acquisition and application of wisdom; the habitual practice of living (doing, being, reacting), and emotion (an affective state of consciousness in which joy, sorrow, fear, hate, or the like, is experienced). These four mental categories make up, cause, or empower “will”- the drive that initiates choosing. The core of the mind is the self (consciousness). All awareness and thought proceed from this center, just as all fully-functional movements start or find foundation at the core of the body.

Being mentally fit is the consistent balance of these Four we call “the mind”. This balance consists of the following 10 mental skills/characteristics: emotional intelligence, knowledge, discretion, awareness, intuition, honesty, selflessness, inspiration (dreams/vision), discipline/self-control and courage. These 10 characteristics bring completion to the Warrior-Athlete who is not only exceptionally fit (or on the road to being so) but is also developing the attitude, mindset, perspective and insight to balance physical success, which generally leads to egotistical agenda, with exceptional maturity and leadership in all arenas of life. The practice of these 10 is the purpose of MeditationWOD and definition of mental fitness.
